As you may know, Day of the Dead San Francisco is a non-commercial event. What this means is that we have not sought any commercial funding, keeping it truly a community event. Most of our funding and support is provided through private and public grants as donations by individuals like you. This year, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and San Francisco Police Department have increased their permitting fees for all city events including Day of the Dead, increasing our already modest budget by about $2,000. This includes mandatory fees for park rental, portable bathrooms, trash pick-up, security guards, and park rangers.
Events such as Day of the Dead make San Francisco a world class city. Through art, culture and music our urban environment is transformed for one night and in the process, we foster community, connection to one another, and ownership and pride in our neighborhood. If you love the tradition of Day of the Dead and would like to see it continue, please make a donation here.
We also take donations via paypal at siouxbabyblue@yahoo.com. Please note Day of the Dead in the note section, so we can send you a thank you letter.
